So You’re Engaged! Now What?
So you’re engaged! Now what? Well typically the first step in your engagement season is to enjoy it! Enjoy every bit of what engagement is all about. Celebrate with your family, tell your friends, and most importantly don’t forget to savor every moment and to hold on to every memory. This season will go by in a blink of an eye and to most people, that’s a good thing. But you will never get this season again (at least that’s the hope), so savor it.
Now a days there are so many extra things involved in engagement; engagement party, wedding shower, bridal shower, bachelor and bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, etc. And the truth to all of that is this: don’t do it if you don’t want to. It seems like it is a lot more complicated than that. Mom wants these people to be involve. You want your friends to get together for this. At the base of all these parties is to celebrate you and the love you and your fiancé have for one another. So if you don’t want to, don’t. Make this process as fun and exciting as possible. Don’t stress yourself with extra things if you don’t genuinely want it.
After you have fully celebrated your engagement and figured out if you want parties or not, the next thing to do is to figure out budget and guest numbers. Don’t freak out. Budget can be a stressful thing same as guest numbers. “Should I invite Pastor Joe so I don’t offend him, but I haven’t seen him since 7th grade?” If you wouldn’t pay $25–50 for a plate of food for Pastor Joe, then the answer is no!
Weddings are going to have their ups and downs and there stressors. It’s inevitable. The best thing to do is to be firm but gracious with your wedding. Don’t be a pushover, but don’t be bridezilla that only wants what she wants. It is your day at the end of it all and all that matters is that you are marrying the love of your life. Focus on that, and hopefully the stressors won’t be as big as they might be otherwise.
And just like that, your wedding process is so much smoother.
